The Sundarbans

The Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world. It has been declared as the 52nd Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987.The Sundarbans is in the South West part of Bangladesh in the district of greater Khulna . India shares a bit of the forest is about 10000 square kilo meters. The Indian part of the forest estimated to be about 38% while the Bangladeshi part is 68%. The Sundarbans is a part of the world's largest delta formed by the rivers Ganges, Brahmaputra ana vs Bay of Bengal. Thousands of streams, creeks, rivers and estuaries have eniac The name may have been derived from the Sundari trees that are found in the Sundarbans in large number. The Sundarbans is famous for its unique ecosystem and a rich wildlife habitat. It is the natural habitat of the world's famous Royal Bengal Tiger, spotted deer, crocodiles, jungle fowl, wild boar, lizards and many more. However, at present it is not in a good shape. Due to environmental pollution and climate change this forest is retreating about 200 meters each year. Many species of animals are extinct and many are going to be extinct. Illegal poaching is one of the reasons. So the government should take proper steps to save the Sundarbans because it is a natural shield for both Bangladesh and India from natural disasters like Sidr, lla ,Bulbul etc. It provides an aesthetic attraction for local and the foreign tourists. Thus the Sundarbans plays a very important role to enrich our economy.
